Education: Postdoctoral Research 2022, Psychiatric Genetics, VCU, Texas A&M PhD 2015, Microbiology, Indiana University Biography: Z. Nathan Taylor, PhD received his Bachelor’s degree from the College of William Mary with a major in 2005 Biology. He attended Indiana University’s Graduate program graduated in 2015 with a PhD in Microbiology having studied plant mitochondrial genetics, horizontal gene transfer, molecular biology and bioinformatics. His Postdoctoral research in psychiatric genetics was done at VCU and Texas A&M. He is currently a faculty researcher at The University of Arizona. Dr. Taylor’s research focus involves the identification of miRNA, a class of small non-coding RNA with important gene regulatory functions and high expression in the brain, that are potential drivers of the transcriptional changes in Major Depression. This research examines transcription at the level of individual miRNA genes, gene networks, post transcriptional regulation, mRNA targeting, and expressed quantitative trait loci eQTLs) He is broadly interested in the role gene expression plays in psychiatric illness with particular emphasis on role of miRNAs as transcription regulators in major depression, alcohol use disorder and PTSD.
