The University of Arizona's Arizona Prevention Research Center, led by Principal Investigator Scott Carvajal, has been awarded a grant by the Department of Health and Human Services to address social isolation and loneliness in rural border Latine and American Indian communities in Arizona. The project, 'Together Across Generations', focuses on implementing evidence-based intergenerational connection programs through community health workers (CHWs) and assessing their impact on reducing social isolation. Key aspects of the grant include:
- Conducting research to understand the implementation and dissemination of CHW-supported intergenerational programs
- Assessing current social connectedness services and identifying barriers and facilitators
- Collaborating with community-based organizations, local health departments, and Tribal nations
- Translating and disseminating findings throughout Arizona to increase intergenerational connection programming and improve surveillance of social isolation.
