Dr. Ackerley earned a doctorate in Educational Leadershifrom Northern Arizona University, and a B.F.A. in Radio Television from the University of Arizona. He teaches undergraduate courses in professional communication, advertising, marketing and creativity. The title of his dissertation is: An investigation of the relationshiof creativity and leadershiin university business students" 2006. Dr. Ackerley’s University of Arizona students won first place nationally for case studies for Honda and AT&T, and second place in the Credit Karma Brand Challenge. Dr. Ackerley teaches marketing and advertising in the Eller College of Management and is the advisor of AdTEAM, the American Marketing Association Collegiate Challenge and AAF National Student Advertising Competition Team. Dr. Ackerley is a lead faculty member for the Marketing Minor program. College teaching awards include the Bumps Tribolet Student Services Award, the Amiable Award, the Apple Polishers Award, and an honoree of the Eller Hispanic Honorary, Eller Student Council, Pi Beta Pi and Eller College Ambassadors. He also received the American Advertising Federation Aid to Education award. Since 1976, Dr. Ackerley has been an account executive and is a principal owner at Ackerley Advertising managing relationships between the agency, clients and media. He is the founder, producer and host of JumIn Tucson! a radio show on KVOI 1030AM The Voice in Tucson, which airs Monday-Friday 9am-10am. His professional affiliation with the American Advertising Federation includes leadershiroles in Tucson including past president, and nationally as a chairman of the Council of Governors. Professional recognition includes Advertising Professional of the Year, Hall of Fame and Silver Medal Award. He is a professional member of the American Marketing Association, and President of four civic organizations: Coaches for Charity, Inc. The Rillito Park Foundation, National Football Foundation Southern Arizona and Tucson Business Owners. In 2019 and 2023, Dr. Ackerley was a candidate for Mayor of the City of Tucson. He is a member and sponsor of Arizona Sands Club. He is the author of CreatingMAGIC, speaks around the country, and consults on creativity and leadershiin organizations. His broad areas of expertise include relationshimanagement, leadership, creativity, advertising, and marketing.
