Prediabetes is a condition in which blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. Individuals with prediabetes are at increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes, as well as other serious health problems such as heart disease and stroke. Research in the area of prediabetes focuses on identifying risk factors, developing strategies for prevention and early intervention, and understanding the underlying mechanisms that contribute to the development of diabetes. Studies may also explore the impact of lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and weight management on the progression of prediabetes to diabetes. The goal of this research is to ultimately reduce the burden of diabetes and its associated complications on individuals and healthcare systems.
