After completion of the combined Veterinary Microbiology and Ph.D residency program, Dr. Zhang joined the Ohio Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory ADDL) as the Section Head of Virology, Avian Serology, and Molecular Diagnostics. He became the Assistant Director in 2017 and served as the interim Director of the ADDL during 2019-2021. His major achievements include discovery of the variant strain of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus in the US and first in the world to report porcine deltacoronavirus as a causal agent of diarrhea in pigs. Dr. Zhang has extensive diagnostic expertise in veterinary virology, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, and next generation sequencing technology.
