Adjunct Lecturer, Public Health | Member of the Graduate Faculty
Karen J. Tiggs, MPH is adjunct faculty at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, where she teaches courses in the areas of health education and promotion. The focus has been working within healthcare organizations to leverage solutions strategy, program and project management, business process improvement, and strategic implementations in hospitals, business, and IT. With professional experiences for the past 20 years in Environmental, Behavioral, and Public Health programs, she leverages her training and expertise to guide students through the maze of Public Health. During ground and online Strategic Planning and Marketing in Health Care courses, Professor Tiggs has partnerships with Non-Profit Organizations that work with the MPH students during the semester. In this capacity, the students serve as consultants to their NPO where they apply the knowledge acquired during the course. Students attend organizational meetings and events while working toward the delivery of marketing and strategic planning tools. During 2016, students were empowered to design a fundraising plan and successfully raised 10,000 for the organization! New projects for 2017 included working with multiple NPO’s which continued in 2018, and 2019. The students worked with a charter school in the south valley of Phoenix to develoa library including books, furniture bookshelves, seating areas, rugs) a structure to manage book inventory, and a check-out/check-in system. Additional and returning projects include working with The Orchard Learning Center, NAMI, and Amistades, Inc. Although the Public Health Communities across the world were challenged with COVID in 2020 students worked with the following organizations: T.E.A.M. Tech Exposure Access Through Mentorship) Center 4 Community, KodeConnect, Inc. Wildlife Critter Care, Equal Play for All Girls E.P.I.C. Arizona Career Development Center A.C.D.C. The Sports Bra Project, the Football for the World Foundation and Resolve Solutions, Inc. The year 2021 also brings forth a unique list of NPOs with a few returning from 2020 to continue their quest for greatness in providing the much-needed services for their constituents. These partnerships provide students with hands-on learning experiences in business and public health.
