In this project we engage K-8 teachers with agricultural experts/producers and Extension educators. We facilitate collaboration between teachers, Extension staff, and ag professionals to create agriculturally focused culturally relevant K-8 classroom curricula and interactive tool kits. These classroom resources integrate agricultural concepts as a central theme for science, natural resources, history, economics, and other core education areas. All opportunities in this program are free for teachers, with support for travel needs to ensure participation. Program implementation will have a 4-tiered approach:Online/in-person teacher training and continuing education credits for K-8 educatorsAgricultural immersion site visits - Teachers participate firsthand in unique ag production activities and work with professionals to develop a personal understanding of production practices and careers.Curriculum development workshops for teachers - We host curriculum development workshops for participants so they can incorporate Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes, and Behaviors (KSAB's) they have learned in our program into personalized classroom tools. These workshops engage teachers with producers, agricultural experts, Extension educators, and other teachers. In these sessions, teachers are supported in iteratively creating tools that suit their unique student body.Program evaluation, adaptation, and participant follow up - We assess our program success at the close of each training session (3 times per year) via a combination of participant quizzes (formative), surveys, KSAB testing (summative), and qualitative interview to ensure that our program is reaching target communities effectively. We continuously adapt program format and content based on feedback from these evaluation tools. We also assess how teachers have included agricultural concepts into their classrooms over time (minimum 4 years of follow-up) to accurately quantify the numbers of youth the program is impacting, and support curricula adaptation as needed.
